I've always been partial to pileated woodpeckers
There are quite a few Trumpeter Swans at the Trisan Centre wetland.
This is the launch of the new Dufferin Marsh Nature Connection website and our interactive bird feeder trail project done in partnership with the Township of King. I hope you take time to register your feeder and follow the site as more people share their back yard bird experiences.
Its a cold day today. I have 3 pair of Cardinals at my feeder and lots and lots of Mourning Doves. Check out the GBBC event on February 15.
It was -9C but sunny around noon today, when I saw 2 Robins perched in my yard.
Today heard and saw a Belted Kingfisher hunting in the small open water area in the midst of the SWM pond. 9°C
I heard a King Fisher yesterday too. A group of Geese were scooping out the Dufferin Marsh.
I had a Cooper's Hawk around my feeder all day yesterday.
I was walking along the Aurora Llyodtown road today and heard some Robins. They will be on our lawns soon.
Heard my first Red-winged Blackbird yesterday.
Yes - I've had several at my feeder. I am surprised that I haven't heard any killdeer yet - perhaps still a little early?
6 Purple Finches today (not House Finches). This is a first. And the Grackles are back.
Guess that means I better stock up on lots more bird seed. Consumption at my feeders increases about four fold once the grackles return :)
First Turkey Vultures yesterday.
Heard a Killdeer today and saw 4 Hoodies on the Dufferin Marsh.
Yay - I always look forward to the killdeer's return. To me, it's a sure sign of spring. Hope all the construction at Doctor Kay (or is it Dillane) and 27 doesn't scare off the ones that nest over by the Trisan centre.
March 17 2016 we observed a pair of mallards mating in our back yard pond.
Oh those naughty ducks.
Lots of Grackles at my feeder dominating the food. It may be time to take them down.
I was at Lynde Shores C.A. on Lake Ontario on Sat. saw a Red Bellied Wood Pecker ( the high light ). Red wings songs were everywhere and yes the Grackles wee amongst them. I change my feeders to more closed ones that don't allow the Grackles to feed this time of year or no more then two at a time. This way the cardinals and jays still come in.
Good idea about the feeders. Did you see any shorebirds on your outing?
No Shore birds as I was in the treed areas.
I have had birds at my feeder all day today. Saw a Red-breasted Nuthatch. First for this year.
Found a beautiful tree swallow nest when we were cleaning out the boxes. Go to the Dufferin Marsh Facebook page to see pictures.
Pretty certain that I saw a pair of northern shovelers at the storm pond in the new subdivision today (April 11).
Very cool. Is that the storm pond at the Dufferin marsh? There should be a lot of ducks at the Trisan pond.
Phoebes and Flickers are back. Go to Facebook page to see pictures.
I heard Savannah, White-throated and Field Sparrows today and the Tree Swallows are back.
Orioles and Chimney Swifts are back.
Yes... I saw an oriole at my feeder this morning. I only put it out yesterday. Hope I hadn't kept him waiting.
I'll put out my hummingbird feeder today (nectar's already mixed and cooling). I find neither bird discriminates :)
I saw a Northern Parula in my yard yesterday. What a beautiful bird.
Hot day for Warblers yesterday. They must be in full migration now. Saw a Black-throated Green Warbler, Magnolia Warbler and a Yellow-rumped Warbler in my back yard.
There are so many fledglings around. They are so vulnerable.
So many birds are on the move. I haven't seen my Hummingbirds for a few days. I heard what I think were Sandhill Cranes flying over.
The trees were hopping today with migrants. Saw a Yellow-rumped Warbler, Hermit Thrush, and Flycatcher (sp).
Saw my first oriole of the season to brighten this soggy day!!!
