It's Turtle Season!

Learn more about turtle nest protection on our Turtles page!

Turtles are roaming the Marsh area (and Schomberg in general), looking for places to lay their eggs.

If you see a turtle laying eggs, or fresh disturbed soil at the side of the road, or in a garden, please contact the Dufferin Marsh or Charles Cooper on Facebook. We can provide a Turtle Nest Protector.

For more information about turtles, and protecting them, visit our Turtles page.

The Dufferin Marsh Nature Connection is a crew of committed individuals that care about the Dufferin Marsh and the community of Schomberg. We believe that a healthy ecosystem translates to a healthy community. We are very concerned about the growing disassociation of people from nature, and work to provide opportunities for people to reconnect through events, workshops, restoration projects and citizen science activities.

The Dufferin Marsh is a 5 ha natural area located in the centre of the Village of Schomberg steps from the downtown Main Street. It is a remnant feature of the Schomberg River isolated when the river was channelized in the 1800’s. Through natural processes and man-made influences the old river bed developed into a wetland. The land was historically used for farming and was bisected by the Schomberg and Aurora Railway in 1902. Through the years the Marsh has flourished despite adjacent development.
